Bricio scores 26 to lead Mexico over Guatemala

 

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 18, 2010 – Mexico beat Guatemala 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18) in a Pool B match of the women’s volleyball tournament of the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games.

 

Mexico out-served its opponent 16-2 including 8 aces by Samantha Bricio who finished with a match-high 26 points. Andrea Rangel contributed 11 points to the win. Guatemala’s best scorer was Rut Gomez with 8 tallies.

 

“Our serves were very good today and we had a good offense,” Mexican Alfredo Bernal said. “But we still need to improve in some aspects. I want to play against Puerto Rico and see really where we are and how much we have improved.”

 

Leivys Garcia, the Cuban coach of Guatemala said: “The rhythm of Mexico was very fast and didn’t allow play our game. Their serves were difficult for us to handle. I think they must be one of the teams in the medals.”
